Dear Inventor:
You may have seen the recent press release regarding the reorganization of IU's technology transfer staff, moving both the personnel and their technology transfer function from the Indiana University Research and Technology Corp. (IURTC) to the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR). These changes were implemented in an effort to better serve your needs, allowing us to work together in closer alignment and to leverage university resources and realize efficiencies. The move does not change our operations and interactions in service to you and your work. Intellectual property and licensing will be managed by the same team of professionals, albeit with planned staff expansion, but will now do so as part of VPR. These services include:
- Intellectual property including patents and patent applications owned by the IURTC will remain under the ownership of the IURTC but will be managed by VPR. New intellectual property, unrelated to previous IURTC intellectual property, will be owned by Indiana University and managed by VPR.
- License agreements previously granted by the IURTC will remain with the IURTC and managed by VPR. License agreements for new Indiana University intellectual property will be managed by VPR.
- The IU intellectual property policy remains in effect.
If you are already working with a technology manager, please feel free to continue working with him/her as you have in the past. Invention disclosures may be submitted directly to your current technology manager, or to Bill Brizzard (Bloomington) or David Wilhite (Indianapolis).
We look forward to continuing a productive relationship. Please contact us with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Bill Brizzard, Executive Director of Technology Commercialization
and
David Wilhite, Director of Technology Commercialization
