Radioactive materials and radiation-producing devices are important tools in modern scientific research and in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. However, radiation also can be potentially hazardous to human health.

The radiation safety program at IU minimizes the hazards involved with radiation and radioactive materials in related research. Procedures and prerequisites differ between IU Bloomington and IUI campuses.
