Submissions to the IRB

Submitting a human subjects study for review

Research projects involving the use of humans as subjects at Indiana University or its affiliated institutions must be reviewed and approved by an Institutional Review Board (IRB). Submitting your study, or protocol, for review by the IRB takes planning and preparation.

The links below will help you understand the process for submitting a new protocol, amending or renewing an existing protocol, closing a study, and reporting events that may occur during the conduct of your study. You can also find information regarding how to proceed if your project will be reviewed by an IRB outside IU.

Using the Kuali Coeus IRB system

All requests for IU IRB review and requests for approval to submit to a non-IU IRB (reliance requests) must be submitted via the Kuali Coeus IRB (KC IRB) system. KC IRB is a web-based system that enables you to submit your protocol for IRB review.
