The Research Micro Grant program provides funding for small research projects, research expenses, book publishing, and other research related items in support of faculty research and creative activities that are sustainable through external funding.
Eligibility
- All full-time tenured and tenure-track faculty
- Research scientists and research center directors
- Non-tenure track faculty whose evaluation criteria are based on research activity
Funding and proposal requirements
- Project funding may not exceed $3,000.
- Projects will be limited to one (1) year in duration.
- Funds will not be granted for similar projects currently supported by other internal or external funding mechanisms at the campus or university level.
- Awardees are not eligible to apply for another Research Micro Grant within 3 years of the previous award letter date.
- Applications for a second Research Micro Grant for the same project or research will not be accepted.

- Book publishing (see instructions for details)
- Data collection, analysis, surveys
- IU research assistants, statisticians, student workers
- Supplies, fees, study incentives
- Travel expenses necessary to conduct the proposed work
- Non-fundable items:
- Conference attendance and presentations
- Investigator salary, graduate fee remission
- Course release
- General computer equipment
- Proposals focused on the development of teaching or academic programs are not eligible.
- Letters of support from the Department Chair or Associate Dean for Research, consultants and collaborators are required.
- If awarded, no funds will be transferred without applicable IRB, IACUC, IBC or Research Security/Export Control approvals.
Post Award Requirements
- Grant recipients are reminded to acknowledge receipt of IU Research support in any presentation or publication of work.
- A final report is due 30 days after the project period.
- Requests for no cost extensions are not allowed.
Submission of Application
- Submissions are accepted continually until June 1, 2025 based on the availability of funding.
- Include the PI’s last name in the file name.
- Submit your application form and attachments as one PDF document through the InfoReady portal.
- Allow at least 4 weeks to receive the funding decision notification.
