The Arts & Humanities Office at IU Research
Indiana University hosts one of the most celebrated arts and humanities faculty in the world, and its arts and humanities departments consistently rank highly on national lists for research and teaching. The Arts and Humanities Office at IU Research, working under the Office of Research Development, supports and amplifies work in this area with high-level programs, initiatives, and strategic planning. Specifically, the office provides the following services:
- Manages internal funding and other support programs for arts and humanities faculty at all campuses
- Plans and hosts faculty information sessions and workshops for external grantmaking and prestigious awards
- Engages with national agencies, corporate sponsors, and private foundations to cultivate fundraising opportunities and institutional support mechanisms
- Develops multidisciplinary and cross-campus research projects in areas of contemporary urgency and salience
- Plans and directs public events and festivals, campus-community partnerships, and placemaking/quality of place initiatives throughout the state
- Partners with university centers, community organizations, government offices, and other units to advance the methods and values of the arts and humanities on a broad scale.
Overseen by the Assistant Vice President, the Arts and Humanities Office works closely with other units at IU Research, such as Corporate and Foundation Relations as well as the IU Innovation and Commercialization Office, to ensure the interests of arts and humanities faculty are represented and integrated into IU’s wider research policies and initiatives. Its programs are overseen by a system-wide A&H Strategic Grants and Awards Committee, and its internal funding programs are reviewed by an A&H Internal Funding Program Review Committee, which includes representatives from all campuses and multiple disciplines.
