Biography
Dr. Brea Perry is the Allen D. and Polly S. Grimshaw Professor in the Department of Sociology and Associate Director of the Irsay Family Institute for Sociomedical Sciences. She served as Associate Vice Provost for Social Science Research for three years before taking on the role of Interim Vice Provost for Research. Perry earned her PhD in Sociology from Indiana University in 2008, where she returned in 2014 after being an assistant and associate professor at University of Kentucky.
Perry’s areas of research include social networks, biosociology, social inequalities, aging, and medical sociology and mental health. She has received funding from multiple National Institutes of Health, including NIDA, NIDCR, NIA, and NCRR, as well as the National Science Foundation and several charitable foundations. Perry was selected by the National Academy of Medicine to serve as an Emerging Leaders in Health and Medicine Scholar (2019-2022), and was elected to the Sociological Research Association in 2021.
