John Baumann oversees IU’s Human Research Protection Programs, Animal Care and Use Programs, and its Conflict of Interest, Export Controls, and Research Integrity programs, ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and university regulations.
He was formerly the executive director for Human Research Protection Programs at IU. Baumann joined IU in 2009 as the executive director of Research Ethics, Education and Policy (REEP). Previously, he was vice provost for research at University of Missouri-Kansas City and deputy executive director at the National Development and Research Institutes in New York, NY.
Baumann received his Ph.D. and M.A. from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Since 2012, he has been a member of the Council of Accreditation for the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP) and has served as an AAHRPP Site Reviewer since 2007.
