The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has issued NOT-OD-25-142 to re-enable the No-Cost Extension (NCE) functionality within eRA Commons. Grantees may resume initiating first no-cost extensions in eRA Commons, in accordance with the NIH Grants Policy Statement, Section 8.1.1.3. NIH has indicated that requests previously submitted via the prior approval module will not be reviewed, and institutions will need to initiate the first no cost extension within the Status module by using the Extension action.
The Office for Research Administration (ORA) will attempt to identify outstanding initial NCE requests submitted from May 1st through August 11th and resubmit them to NIH. If “No Cost Extension Request” was selected on the Non-Routed Administrative Request Form, no additional departmental action is needed at this time.
