Federal funding agencies are beginning to implement the research security program requirements set forth in National Security Presidential Memorandum 33 and the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, Section 10634. Pursuant to these requirements, federal funding agencies must require research security training for senior/key personnel listed on an application for a research and development award. Federal agencies are beginning to require completion of this training prior to proposal submission. The Department of Energy has already begun implementing the requirement in its Notices of Funding Opportunity (see FAL 2025-02 ), the National Science Foundation has proposed to begin its implementation of the requirement in October 2025 (see Draft PAPPG 26-1) and other federal agencies will begin implementing this requirement.
To expedite your next federal proposal, we encourage individuals that will be listed as senior/key personnel to complete the research security training module as soon as possible.
Access to Training: IU Research Security Training Module
Estimated time to complete the training is 1 hour but can be completed in a shorter time by adjusting playback speed.
Data on training completion will be tracked and linked to Kuali Coeus so that it may be confirmed at the time of proposal submission. If you have questions about the research security training, please reach out to rsohelp@iu.edu.
