Final revisions to the Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Subjects (Common Rule) go into effect on January 19, 2018. Several of the revisions in the updated regulations affect the informed consent process and informed consent form. In order to facilitate transition to the revised Common Rule, the Human Subjects Office has released four revised informed consent templates for immediate use by the research community on the Human Subjects Forms & Templates webpage for download. These revised templates are currently being translated into Spanish and downloadable versions of those documents will be available shortly.
Detailed information about the informed consent template changes, their impact, as well as information regarding how to utilize the revised templates is available on the Human Subjects Homepage.
HSO staff are available to answer questions about the revised consent forms and their use, as well as the new common rule. You are welcome to contact a member of the HSO staff, Amy Waltz, or the IRB with any questions.
You may also request a departmental-specific training session on the revised Common Rule by completing the online Revised Common Rule Training Request.
