Topics to be discussed include the mission of NIH, budgetary trends at NIH, the organizational structure of NIH, the different types of NIH funding, the mechanics of preparing applications for NIH funding, and the application review process at NIH.

Responsible Conduct of Research Workshops Open to All IU
The Office of Research Compliance, in collaboration with Vice Provost for Research Office, Office of Vice Provost for Graduate Education, and participating NIH Principal Investigators are pleased to continue offering the Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) Series. If supported by National Institutes of Health (NIH) F, K, T, or Dissertation Awards, NIH requires that all eligible researchers complete an in-person (virtual given the pandemic) interactive program of RCR education of at least 8 hours.

Our new interactive, engaging modules equip you with fundamental concepts in data literacy and introduce you to SAVI tools. The SAVI Training Curriculum can also provide customized trainings for organizations, students, and more. Center for Translating Research Into Practice presents 2022 Annual Keynote featuring Indiana University President Pamela Whitten – February 25
The IUPUI Center for Translating Research Into Practice (TRIP) is pleased to announce that IU President Pamela Whitten will be the speaker for our annual Keynote event, titled Telemedicine: A Journey Through the Evolution of Translational Research. President Whitten will discuss her experiences as a research faculty member focused on telemedicine, new technologies and communication, and the social impacts and effects of health technologies. The event will take place on Friday, February 25, 2022 from 12 noon to 1 pm (Eastern). She will also discuss her vision for the role translational research can play at Indiana University and on the IUPUI campus in the years to come. This event is free and open to the public.
Bantz-Petronio Translating Research Into Practice (TRIP) Faculty Award Accepting Nominations
The Bantz-Petronio Translating Research Into Practice Faculty Award (the “TRIP Award”) was established in 2013 with a gift from IUPUI Chancellor Emeritus Charles Bantz and Professor Sandra Petronio. It is intended to recognize outstanding work in translating research into practice by a faculty member at IUPUI. Candidates' research should be interdisciplinary and/or cross-disciplinary and intentionally directed toward positively impacting people's lives within or beyond the state of Indiana. The recipient receives a cash award of $1,000. The deadline to apply is midnight on Monday, February 28, 2022.

This information session focuses on basic procedures for developing successful proposals to external funding agencies that support the research, teaching, and service missions of the university and campus. Topics to be discussed include clarifying project objectives (e.g., narrowing the scope of research), matching project objectives to funding agencies (e.g., identifying funding opportunities), becoming familiar with funding agencies (e.g., understanding agency missions, application procedures, and review criteria), basic budget construction (e.g., calculating indirect costs), and communicating objectives and methods (e.g., explaining complex ideas in a limited space), all with the goal of persuading funding agencies to give you money. OnyxFest 2022 is sponsored by the Africana Repertory Theater of IUPUI (ARTI), a program of study offered by the IUPUI School of Liberal Arts, School of Education and Office of Community Engagement using theater to document and artistically reflect the history, cultural life, and politics of people of the Africana Diaspora. For a few aspiring writers, OnyxFest 2022 – the first and only Indiana theater festival exclusively for African American playwrights – will cover all expenses required to bring scripts to life.This competition is designed to showcase the broad spectrum of stories that depict Black life and culture. OnyxFest Director Vernon A. Williams said, “This is an event that empowers Black artists to create their own narrative, to tell their own stories.” Scripts will be accepted for consideration up to midnight Tuesday, March 15th.
IU Presidential Arts and Humanities Program Grant applications are due in March
Join co-directors Ed Dallis-Comentale and Jason M. Kelly for an introductory seminar on new grant categories, updates to the program, and guidelines for grant applications. - Presidential Fellows Program in the Arts and Humanities supports a select cohort of arts and humanities scholars for an intensive academic year of research and creative activity, professional development, and collaboration. Deadline: March 18, 2022.
- Production Grants support performance costs; exhibit costs; fees for monographs and article production; sound, film and video editing/production; printing and design; and advertising. Deadline: March 11, 2022.
- Research Travel Grants support expenses associated with faculty travel for the purpose of conducting scholarly research or fieldwork. Deadline: Rolling.
- Conference and Presentation Travel Grants support national and international travel to present or exhibit research. Deadline: Rolling.
Apply by April 4 for the Indiana CTSI core equipment grant
The Indiana CTSI is seeking proposals from CTSI-designated IU School of Medicine cores requesting support for the purchase of equipment that will enhance the research environment and contribute to the research mission of the school and the CTSI. Call for White Papers and Seed Fund Proposals for Collaborative AI Research
The IUPUI Institute of Integrative Artificial Intelligence (iAI) seeks white paper proposals for innovative AI research projects that can lead to major research collaborations and external grant funding opportunities. If accepted, iAI will work with the PI of each project to assist with formation of a collaborative team, identify funding opportunities, and to provide seed funding (if necessary) for generating preliminary results. All accepted white papers are required to submit proposals for external funding.

Proposals open for Faculty Inclusive Excellence grants
Proposals for the Faculty Inclusive Excellence Grants are being accepted on a rolling basis during the 2021-22 academic year, as funds are available. The Faculty Inclusive Excellence Grants initiative, sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs and the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, will award up to 10 grants of up to $1,000 in support of faculty-engaged activities that advance the objectives of IUPUI's Strategic Goal 9: Promoting an Inclusive Campus Climate. Faculty mentors needed for competition
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals poster competition offers an opportunity for IU students to connect on a deeper level with their faculty mentor and share their research on UN SDG 13: Climate Action. The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students on all IU campuses and offers a chance to share their work with a broader audience and network with colleagues around the world in a Global Forum in April. Faculty are encouraged to share this opportunity with colleagues and encourage any students who might be interested to participate.
2022 STEM Education Innovation & Research Institute Seed Grants Request for Proposals
The STEM Education Innovation and Research Institute (SEIRI) at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) is pleased to announce the 2022 SEIRI Seed Grant (SSG) competition. The goal of this competition is to facilitate and support STEM education innovation and research at IUPUI. The SSG supports a wide range of curricular innovations with a targeted focus on potentially transformative projects that will be implemented in the undergraduate or graduate curriculum at IUPUI and that provide opportunities for novel Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) or Discipline-Based Educational Research (DBER). New Research Equipment and Tools Website
To increase faculty access to IU's impressive array of specialized research equipment, resources, datasets, and other tools, OVPR, VPR IT, and UITS have created a searchable database of shareable research equipment and tools, available through the new Research Equipment and Tools website. This website and database bring valuable assets together in one spot, making it easier and more efficient for researchers to find them and information about how to share in their use.
Researchers from all disciplines are encouraged to submit their research equipment, resources, datasets and other tools. National AI Initiative Office launches the AI Researchers Portal
To make it easier for all AI researchers to locate and explore the many relevant Federal resources and funding programs, the National AI Initiative Office has established an AI Researchers Portal on AI.gov. Created in partnership with Federal departments and agencies and the Networking and Information Technology Research and Development coordination office, this portal connects AI researchers to Federal resources that can support their research, including data, computing, and testbeds, as well as AI-relevant grant funding programs. This portal is one of many tools and approaches for advancing the Nation's leadership in AI research and development – the first goal of the National AI Initiative. For those new to AI research, the AI Researchers Portal provides pointers to informational guides for navigating Federal research funding processes. This includes resources for learning about the Federal grant lifecycle and processes through Grants 101, as well as links to Grants.gov, Research.gov, and Challenge.gov.

Trial Innovation Network offers opportunities for investigators interested in multi-site studies
The Trial Innovation Network (TIN), a collaborative initiative within the Clinical & Translational Science Awards (CTSA) program, is currently accepting new proposals from investigators. The TIN vision is to address critical roadblocks in clinical research and accelerate the translation of novel interventions into life-saving therapies. The network leverages the expertise and resources of CTSA programs from across the country to encourage innovation, excellence and collaboration. Training for responsible research
University-wide training opportunities help researchers and research staff learn more about key areas of research administration, development, and compliance. Online training is available for learning how to use IU research tools and systems, such as CITI, KC, and Pivot; and quick guides walk you through step-by-step instructions on specific research topics and tasks. Be sure to also review the training requirements for six of the seven compliance areas, and fulfill these requirements for yourself and your research team.
NIH supplements existing grants with a focus on AI/ML and an ethics component
The NIH Office of Data Science Strategy (ODSS) announces the availability of funds for Administrative Supplements to active NIH grants that have a significant Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) and/or ethics component. The funds will support collaborations that bring together expertise in ethics, biomedicine, data collection, and AI/ML to advance the understanding, tools, metrics, and practices for the ethical development and use of AI/ML in biomedical and behavioral sciences. This initiative is aligned with the NIH Strategic Plan for Data Science, which describes actions aimed at modernizing the biomedical research data ecosystem. For the purposes of this Notice, AI/ML is inclusive of machine learning (ML), deep learning (DL), and neural network (NN) techniques employed in distributed, federated, local, or cloud environments. Applicants are strongly encouraged to discuss potential requests with their Institute/Center (IC) Program Official before submitting the supplemental request. The National Science Foundation (NSF) is now enforcing the Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 20-1) requirement to use NSF-approved formats for the preparation of the Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending Support proposal documents. The NSF-approved formats are SciENcv: Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae and an NSF fillable PDF.

ORA Contract Request Form
The online ‘ORA Contract Request Form’ is available through One.IU. ORA and is intended to be used for all non-monetary contracts. These include non-disclosure agreements (NDAs / CDAs), Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs), Data Use Agreements (DUAs), Master Agreements, Teaming Agreements, and any other unfunded research collaboration agreement. The form should not be used for sponsored award agreements or subaward requests, The ORA Contract Request Form replaces the process of emailing different PDF intake sheets to ORAResCo@iu.edu and mtas@iu.edu. This process allows us to collect more relevant information when a request is submitted and makes the contracting process more efficient and expedient.
