The National Institutes of Health (NIH) recently issued Notice NOT-OD-26-033 announcing an adjusted timeline for their implementation of Common Forms for Biological Sketches along with Current and Pending (Other) Support.
NIH will be extending the current leniency period through May 2026 to provide users and institutions sufficient time for adoption and compliance. Additionally, this revised timeline allows for the Common Form certifications to align with the NIH Research Security Training Requirements covered in Notice NOT-OD-26-017.
NIH encourages all applicants and recipients to begin using the Common Forms; however, they will continue to accept the NIH Biographical Sketch and NIH Other Support format pages through the duration of this extended leniency period. In the interim, NIH will provide a system warning when Common Forms are not used but will not withdraw applications. NIH will announce a firm date in the spring for when this warning will transition to a system error.
