Collin Rich serves as Associate Vice President for Research and Chief Research Security Officer for Indiana University.
Collin leads the Research Security Office (RSO), which serves faculty by addressing the security risks posed to the IU research environment and helps researchers protect themselves, their research data and methodologies, publication rights, and intellectual property from misappropriation. The office also leads IU’s compliance efforts with a growing field of government rules and regulations in the area of research security, including export control regulations.
Collin and the RSO team work with university leaders responsible for public safety and compliance, as well as state and federal oversight agencies, to ensure the security of the IU research environment.
Prior to joining IU in December 2023, Collin led research contracting efforts at The University of Alabama and later launched the university’s first campus-wide export control compliance and research security program.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from The University of Alabama and a juris doctor from The University of Alabama School of Law.
