The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) was founded
in 1963 as an umbrella organization uniting Latin Americanists from
all campuses of Indiana University. Currently, more than 60 affiliated faculty members in 16 departments and several professional schools teach and/or conduct research on topics related to Latin America. CLACS' outreach programs are designed both to complement its academic offerings and to inform the statewide community at large. CLACS sponsors a lecture series "Dialogos," in which invited guests, IU faculty, and sometimes graduate students present their latest research. CLACS publishes its own annual newsletter and also stimualtes faculty and graduate student interchange through a USIA-funded international linkage with the Universidad Centroamericana in Managua, Nicaragua.
