The Indiana Business Research Center is a research and information service of the Kelley School of Business, serving IU’s engagement mission throughout Indiana and beyond. The IBRC provides and interprets the economic and demographic data needed by the state's business, government and nonprofit organizations, as well as users of such information throughout the nation.

The Center maintains extensive databases on topics such as income, employment, taxes, economic activity, education, demographics and a host of other indicators for the nation, the state and local areas. In addition, the center conducts original research to generate needed information when existing data are not available or sufficient. These data are subjected to sophisticated analyses to provide insight into current conditions and trends that will shape the future. Clear, understandable presentation of research findings, with a focus on implications for action, is an IBRC hallmark. Policy makers in both public and private sectors turn to the IBRC to enlighten key issues they face.

Representative research projects include: benchmarking local and regional economies; population and workforce projections; economic impact studies; labor market analyses; strategic planning for economic development; analyses of exports and foreign direct investment; and many others. The IBRC's research and analysis work is published in special reports as well as in two award-winning periodicals, the quarterly Indiana Business Review and the bi-monthly IN Context.

IBRC researchers develop innovative approaches to analyzing and presenting complex data. The center's STATS Indiana website offers a variety of ways to examine detailed data for cities, counties, states and the nation. A dynamic ranking feature makes it easy to identify other places that share important characteristics in common with a given community. Interactive geographic information system tools enable website users to evaluate data via maps, making it easy to see how key measures vary from place to place.

With many federal and state official partnerships, the IBRC serves as the source of official population projections for the state of Indiana, as well as the state's official liaison to the U.S. Census Bureau. The Center is also a founding member of the Census Bureau's Business and Industry Data Center Program, the Bureau of Economic Analysis User Group, and the Association for University Business and Economic Research.
