The Eppley Institute for Parks and Public Lands is Indiana University’s award winning institute dedicated to meeting the needs of park, recreation, and public land organizations across the nation. As a unit of Indiana University’s Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Studies, the Eppley Institute continues Indiana University’s 60 plus years of offering technical assistance and research, training and education, and planning and design for park, recreation and public land agencies. These 3 areas of expertise include:
- Technical Assistance and Research-Effective management of park and recreational operations is founded upon information-based, data driven decision making. Eppley’s technical assistance and research expertise provide project sponsors with the findings and recommendations needed to formulate development strategies, performance indicators and create important business practices unique to their agency.
- Training and Education-Effective training and education programs in national, state, and local park and recreation organizations are one of them most important and effective ways to improve public experiences and support for park, recreation and public land expenditures. Eppley’s leadership and incorporation of distributed education methods, adult learning, learning and outcome measurement, return on investment and field research based content results in engaged learners, cost effective leaning and education, and clearly delineated learning objectives for on-line, classroom, and web based training.
- Planning and Design- Using extensive research and analysis, continuous community involvement , unparalleled public engagement, processes, and a combination of local and national expertise in community planning, the Eppley Institute creates plans that are widely supported and successfully implemented by agencies across the nation.
The mission of the institute is to partner with recreation, park, and public land organizations to enhance access to, choice of, and the quality of natural, cultural, and recreational experiences.
